What's hidden inside this cake?
Colourful polka dots!
Make up your cake mix and prepare a cup cake tin or cake pop tray.
Using a small bowl, spoon in small amounts of cake mix ready to add your chosen colours.
Spoon each colour into your prepared cup cake or cake pop tray.
Making equal numbers of coloured mini cakes as you go.
Once you have all your colours prepared, bake as per instructions.
Once cooked, if you've used a cake pop tray, you may want to tidy up the edges so you have smooth round balls when you put them in your larger cake.
I used a small serrated knife to tidy up my edges.
Prepare two larger tins and a double cake mix quantity.
Spread a layer of mix on the bottom of each tin. Lay your mini coloured cakes around the tin on the mix.
Tip: Remember the layout so you can stack greens and blues on one side and reds over the top when the cakes are cooked.
Add the rest of the mixture over the coloured balls so they keep moist while cooking the second time.
Place in the oven and bake as per the instructions for your cake.
Allow to cool completely.
Tip: You can see the coloured balls poking through the rest of the cake. This is handy if you want to line up particular colours and have forgotten where they are.
Decorate as you wish. This one hid the polka dots completely and I asked everyone to guess what was inside the cake.
